Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in public relations but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Christina Daves, Founder of PR for Anyone, located in Gainesville, VA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help industry professionals who feel they are the world's best-kept secret go from Established to Known™. My customers are established in their business but aren't sought after yet. They are looking to get to the next level of visibility, authority, and notoriety in their space.

Tell us about yourself

I invented a product that didn't exist in the marketplace, so I needed a way to promote it. I had zero money for advertising or publicity, so I figured out a PR system that worked. I put it on paper, started teaching it, and to date, it's full-proof. Together with my clients, we have over 1 billion views and over $100 million in sales from free publicity.

What motivates me each day is seeing the regular success of my clients and what a game-changer that is for their business. I love nothing more than turning on the television or reading an article and seeing my client there.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is the success of my clients. My success is their success.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The buck stops with you. At the end of the day, if you fail or succeed, it's YOU. It's difficult to wear many hats, and it's essential to learn to hire people who are better at certain things than you are. You cannot do everything in your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Know your strengths and weaknesses and find people to help you with what you aren't good at.
  2. Be flexible. You have an idea right now, but it probably won't go exactly as you have planned. You have to be able to pivot and go where it takes you. You might be really surprised where you end up. If you had told me in 2010 that inventing a product would lead to me regularly being on television and speaking on stages to thousands, I would not have believed you.
  3. Don't be afraid to ask. Most people will help you. There's nothing wrong with asking people who are further ahead than you for advice. Along those lines, find a mentor. Every successful business person has someone they can bounce ideas off of.
