Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Tammie Polk, Founder of Professionally Sassy, located in Memphis, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a woman who found a way to marry her love of writing with her mission to help women see what's possible! I am blessed to be a Goal and Dream Fulfillment Coach. Also, I have been blessed to pen, record, and publish 151 books in the last seven years. Each one of my books has a mind of its own. Yet, I'm able to use each one of them to show ambitious, creative, visionary moms who want to leave a legacy but doubt themselves that they are meant to do more than make others look good!

Tell us about yourself

Even with all that I do, my greatness role is being a married homeschooling mother of three daughters. I started my business because I wanted to show them that they could do what they love, make a difference, and get paid for it! My road hasn't been easy, but my family has been my first line of defense and my biggest cheerleader. Aside from seeing their eyes light up and the smiles on their faces, I am inspired and motivated by ANY woman who decides that enough is enough. She's READY to do something about the angst in her head and heart. I am here for the woman who wants to stop neglecting her personal or business.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I would have to say that it was opening my own bookstore in April 2019 and then expanding to a new location in October 2019. I wanted a place of my own where I could display ALL of the titles bookstores were saying no to and host workshops and classes for the women I served. I wrote the vision for my place in May 2018 and watched it unfold just over a year later. Since I opened, I have helped women all over the world to achieve their goals!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Life itself! Things that knock us off track are often debilitating, leading to us wanting to give up, yet we know we can't. We deal with inconsistent clientele and income, ever-changing trends, and the stress of trying to keep up with it all.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

First, understand that YOUR business doesn't have to look like anyone else's! You have something rare and precious to offer this world, so do THAT! Second, realize that just because someone does what you do doesn't mean that THEY do what YOU do. They don't have your drive, skills, gifts, or talents, so don't let them stop you. Third, learn the difference between who you CAN help and who you're MEANT to serve early. As a business owner, you can and WILL run into people who will cause you to end up brokenly serving in excellence, and that's grating on you! Never be afraid to fire someone, even if they're a client or customer.
