What's your business, and who are your customers?

Today, many workplaces struggle with poor leadership, discrimination, and low employee wellness. In turn, this negatively impacts workforce performance, retention, and overall well-being. No one wants to go to a job where they feel unsupported and unfulfilled. Since most people spend a large percentage of their life at work, it is essential for us to experience belonging and purpose to ensure we maintain a sense of wellness and satisfaction.

Therefore at RC Warner Consulting, our mission is to assist teams with creating a culture of inclusion to maximize their potential. Using an innovative approach, our vision is to serve as a premiere, globally recognized consulting firm that assists small and large organizations with enhancing their workplace culture through leadership, diversity, and wellness principles. Unlike other companies, we specialize in taking a multi-dimensional approach to enhance organizational commitment and effectiveness. For instance, we understand that you cannot boost diversity within the workplace without also focusing on wellness and leadership enhancement and vice-versa. We have specifically noticed that those within the healthcare and education industries may struggle when experiencing burnout, discrimination, and toxic workplaces at a high rate. Through our professional speaking, coaching, and consulting services, we have been able to expand our reach across the globe to improve psychological resilience, cultural awareness, and leadership abilities to support healthy and productive workplaces.

Tell us about yourself

Before founding RC Warner Consulting, I began to realize that most people not only spend a large percentage of their life at work but also may feel unfulfilled within the work that they do. I have seen firsthand how this can contribute to mental health challenges and low satisfaction. Throughout my personal and professional experiences, I have also discovered that many organizations struggle with fostering a culture of inclusion within their workplace. As a Black male psychologist, my personal experience with discrimination and working in toxic environments has fueled me to utilize my skills and passion for serving as an advocate and change agent to enhance the workplace climate.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner thus far has been my ability to create partnerships across the globe to improve leadership, diversity, and wellness within the workplace. At RC Warner Consulting, we have had the privilege of providing our services to organizations on six different continents, spreading our message to millions of people. We hope to continue expanding our reach and impact in the future!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

It is always challenging to work with individuals and organizations who say they are committed to change but do not make the effort that is needed to grow and develop. Promoting meaningful change is always challenging because, oftentimes, it leads to discomfort. Innately, no one wants to feel uncomfortable, especially when engaging in topics related to discrimination, racism, mental health stigma, and toxic leadership. Therefore, many may shut down, which may interfere with boosting awareness and shifting behavior. This can create a challenge for a business owner and change agent. However, I have found that tackling these concerns at the beginning, as well as meeting each person where they are, can be helpful in identifying possible barriers that may arise to improve the likelihood of success and growth.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

My first tip for anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business would be to begin by identifying what gets you out of bed in the morning. What interests and passions do you hold that can fill a specific need or gap? Next, I would encourage everyone to obtain a mentor that will give them honest feedback to advance their growth and development. You can not establish and sustain a successful business alone; therefore, having an accountability partner to guide and motivate you is essential. Last, prioritize networking. Establishing healthy connections and networks will help take your business to the next level and provide opportunities that you would have never imagined!
