Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Quentin Depigny, Founder of ROCKS Whiskey Chilling Stones, located in Idaho, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are an award-winning whiskey stone and barware gifting brand. We create high-end gift sets for the whiskey connoisseur. Our focus is to be the top choice for gifting in the whisky niche and provide exceptional unboxing experiences for a unique experience. Most of our customers are whisky lovers, cocktail fans, and homeowners seeking for a bar cart upgrade.

Tell us about yourself

My background is in import-export of wine and spirits, so I have been in this industry for over 10 years. I wanted to create a product I could own and distribute how I wanted, so the idea of creating an accessory brand for this industry fits well. I got started selling online, mostly on Amazon, before expanding to all online channels as well, with a strong focus on wholesale. I'm passionate about what we do at ROCKS and think we are truly one of the only brands to stand out in our category. We seek to be in a leading position in the gifting world, and when the efforts pay off, and we have happy customers, this is rewarding to see!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are fully bootstrapped and have been able to grow every year since launch in 2016 despite challenges every single year. Being selected as well with luxurious retailers and duty-free channels has also been a great brand achievement.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Staying consistent and having a clear focus despite market noise and competition. You have to believe you can do it.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think ahead, and look at your business model for lifetime customer value as the center point of your strategy.
  2. Learn first, do it yourself, then hire.
  3. Remain creative to solve problems. Money won't fix a broken offer.
