Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Scott Silverston, Founder of Shamanic Spirit Medicine, located in Kapaa, HI, USA.

What's business, and who are your customers?

I am Scott Silverston, a leading international shamanism teacher and the founder of Shamanic Spirit Medicine. The broadest vision of my work is to inspire positive change in the collective human consciousness that enables us to step more fully into our roles as custodians and caretakers of the web of life. Shamanism is a gift for all people, a gift for everyone who wishes to use this medicine in the right relationship with the intention of making a positive contribution to the healing and preservation of the web of life. By teaching this work and sharing the tools that help others to cultivate their own unique gifts, I am able to fulfill my higher purpose of helping to heal and preserve the web of life in a more profound and effective way.

Tell us about yourself

I am Scott Silverston, a leader in the international Shamanic Teaching Community, serving students and clients in dozens of countries around the world. I am a graduate of Duke University and a former director of a major private trade finance company. However, I made the decision to leave the corporate world behind and dedicate my career to making a positive impact on the web of life. One of the main focal points of my teaching is to normalize Shamanic Consciousness as an ancient and effective method of achieving balance, both personally and collectively.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Helping good-hearted people who are dedicated to their own self-healing recover their vitality, find an inspirational path in life, and make meaningful contributions to themselves, their communities, and the Web of Life as a whole.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Taking time for self-care and personal balance. As a leader dedicated to helping others, it is important that I model the self-care and balance that I teach. Taking time out is crucial for sustainability, and longevity is key for making a long-term positive impact. Being a person who is driven to help and blessed with visionary aspirations, it is important to temper those ambitions with the physical world limits of what one can accomplish on any given day while maintaining a healthy, well-rounded, and balanced life.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find the intersection of what you enjoy, what you are good at, and what other people need.
  2. Understand that you will hold yourself to a higher standard than any other employer you will ever have.
  3. Make sure that the people you work with are aligned with your values
    Have fun with it!
