What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are a small personal training studio. We offer personal training, group training, and customized nutrition plans. We work with clients in person at our studio and online. We have seven trainers and two nutritionists. We cover all aspects of life from weight loss, muscle gaining, sports specific, anti-aging, all the way to bodybuilding competition prep service. Our goal is to help each individual at their level meet their personal goals to be their very best. I also do workplace, corporate, and specialty group health and wellness speaking events to help educate about healthy eating and lifestyle.

Tell us about yourself

I am an IFBB Women’s Physique Pro. I started working out at a young age. I was a competitive gymnast starting at age 6, a cheerleader, a long-distance runner, and now a professional bodybuilder. My discipline and dedication as an athlete have helped shape me into the business owner I am today. Hard work and dedication play out in all areas of my life. Focusing on the long-term goal versus the short-term keeps me motivated. I see life as a marathon, not a sprint. Being fit and healthy has always been a priority for me since a very young age. I have such a passion for health that it inspired me to help others from all aspects of life. The desire to change has to come from within. I work with clients on starting to change their thinking first then the body transformation comes after that. You have to trench some truth to reduce the negative self-talk and get to positive thinking. Celebrating the small victories along the way creates a new version of you on your journey to health.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Opening our own studio. My husband and I have been personal trainers combined for over 40 years. We were kinda pushed into going out on our own after the gym we were working out of was making big changes. We took a leap of faith in the direction we always dreamed of. He and I alone opened our doors, and within two months, we were out of the room. We were able to find a bigger location to move to quickly, and since have grown to have seven trainers and two nutritionists.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Owning your own business can be very taxing. There is never an off day, not even on vacation. Juggling clients and events and keeping your business marketed can run you down with long hours. I give a lot of myself to my clients. So it is very important to me to stay centered and start every day with my quiet time in prayer.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Understand that there is no shortcut to being successful. It only comes with hard work and dedication.
  2. Put yourself out there. No one can market you and what you stand for better than you. You be the face of what you represent.
  3. Pour into yourself as much as you pour into others, so you don’t get burned out.
