What's your business, and who are your customers?
Speech Within Reach provides speech therapy to children and adults via telehealth (e.g., zoom) and in person in select locations. We are located in California, Texas, and Illinois. We assist individuals with autism, Asperger's, apraxia, dementia, post-stroke rehab, brain injuries, learning disabilities, cerebral palsy, neurodiversity, deaf, late talkers, stuttering, articulation (e.g., lisps), etc.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a nationally certified Speech-Language Pathologist for over 20 years and earned a master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from NYU. I was inspired to become a speech therapist in 8th grade when my new deaf bestie would ask me to teach her to say the words she signed, and in turn, I was able to learn sign language. I saw the personal and social challenges she overcame to communicate with others. This leads me to support my personal mission to empower others to communicate confidently, using their voice in one form or another.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest honor and joy as a speech therapist has been seeing my clients feel empowered by being able to use their voices in one form or another confidently.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the challenges as the owner of a business is finding a work-life balance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
The tips I share for a new business are to be clear with your values and to then align your business around that, including your mission statement and the people you hire.
