What's your business, and who are your customers?

We're a Columbus Ohio based, gourmet catering company, providing creatively designed delicious food catering. When we enjoy food together, we create moments in time that become the fabric of our memories. So many wonderful memories of our lives are centered around food & people! And our memories are sewn together to create this garment of life we live in. We are in awe at the amount of love and life we get to experience and enjoy by giving life and love through great food. Our ideal customers love delicious, unique food enjoyed with great company at memorable moments of their lives. And they are excited to pay for what they want!

Tell us about yourself

I have been passionate about food for as long as I can remember. My first job, at age 15, was as a Grill Cook in a Jack In the Box in Lynwood, California. From then until now, every position I have held has allowed me to cook and/or serve the public. I have created and catered food to people all of my life, knowing that food is life at its best taste. For years I Cooked and Managed a variety of restaurant brands. After receiving requests to cook for parties and events, my wife convinced me to start a Catering business, and Taste Of The Best Catering LLC was born in February 2008. Since we have continued to create delicious designer dishes while adding an elevated spin on traditional and classic recipes. Our pride is not only in our delicious dishes but also in our presentation.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As we've continued to grow Taste Of The Best Catering LLC, we've been honored to serve some famous and notable names. We've prepared and served our menus in some of the most beautiful and luxurious event venues, have advanced our certifications and accreditations, and have received many #1 honors. But our biggest accomplishment came post-Covid. As one of few local Black Owned Catering Companies, the National Black Campaign produced a record-breaking year for our company. Like many small businesses, we were forcibly closed in 2020-2021 and feared losing our company. To return post Covid, to such a flurry of business and support is our biggest accomplishment.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Finding and retaining employees who care about your business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make personal growth and education a priority.
  2. Be prepared to work harder and longer hours than ever before.
  3. Respect and value everyone who has and does help to maintain and grow your business.
