What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a medical spa that focuses on enhancing one's natural beauty. We offer facials, HydraFacial, chemical peels, neurotoxin treatments (i.e., Dysport), filler, laser hair removal, micro-needling, and much more to men and women. We feel very passionately about keeping your skin healthy and protected, so we offer several lines of medical-grade skincare and a variety of SPF options as well!
Tell us about yourself
I have been a nurse for 13 years, a nurse practitioner for six years, and I transitioned to aesthetics exclusively three years ago. When COVID hit, aesthetics was deemed "not essential," and the practice I was working at closed for a period of time. During this time, as with many others, I had to leave the job I loved to stay home with my kids and help with online schooling, etc. Once the kids went back to school, I had to figure out my next move, and I thought, "there's no time like the present!" I took a huge leap of faith opening my practice when we weren't sure if things would shut down again, but I am so happy that I did it!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am extremely proud of myself, as a woman and non-physician, that I was able to secure funding for my business. During those times of uncertainty, banks were not extremely keen on providing funding for service-based businesses. I am also proud that I was able to grow and thrive during that time. I think by providing exceptional service and building strong relationships with our patients, we were able to set ourselves apart from similar businesses.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I have two young daughters, two dogs, and a husband who works full time and travels. It's extremely hard giving everything to the business and also being present at home. I am blessed to have an amazing staff at my practice who help hold me up so that I can be my best self in both places!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be prepared to hear "no" and then find a way to keep going! Don't get discouraged!
- Find the right people, and then train them to do the job. You will not regret waiting to find people who you love coming in to work with every day!
- The hours are grueling and long, but they are WORTH IT!
