Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Meg Smithson, Founder of Meg Smithson Coaching, located in Indianapolis, IN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Meg Smithson Coaching: “I help ambitious women get out of their own way, faster.” We build bulletproof relationships by addressing people-pleasing, shame, & perfectionism.

Tell us about yourself

Before coaching, my life was driven by people-pleasing, perfectionism, & underlying shame. When I broke free from this & figured out how to set boundaries (without guilt), my life changed. Now I help women do the same thing. It truly changes everything & is a game-changer. I am motivated to help women get freed from these areas that subconsciously block their peace, performance, and presence & also impact their partnership & parenting. I’m on a mission to create a #lovelegacy for my family & others I coach & have that ripple out to generations to come.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Not quitting. Haha, no, really. Entrepreneurship grows you in ways I never fully could comprehend until I experienced it. And being in the front row of my clients’ transformations.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Getting back up after every ‘failure’ & truly gaining the resilience that comes from that process. It’s entirely different than what we’re taught in school, so it challenges your mind, nervous system, & primal brain & teaches you to find safety in new & ‘scary’ levels.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire a coach to help you see your blind spots as well as cheer you on.
  2. Separate your worth from your business.
  3. Have fun (& build inner safety) as you fail. And, remember to use the ‘failures’ as data, not something personally about YOU as a human being.
  4. Bonus: keep it as simple as possible. And, remember to have fun.
