What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an Industrial Organizational Psychologist who works with Fortune 100 companies to help develop their top leaders, successfully move their people through change, and teach employees how to be highly emotionally intelligent so they can be great leaders. My business consists of customized workshops, consulting, and executive coaching.

Tell us about yourself

I have always enjoyed teaching and speaking to large groups of people, and in all my past jobs, no matter where I started, I always ended up in training and development. What initially spurred me into being an entrepreneur was a near-death experience when I was 32 years old. Due to all of the self-development work I had done previously, I was able to change my mindset in such a way as to heal my illness. This experience was inspirational in that I had a strong urge to teach what I had learned about myself and the power of our minds to others. Having a positive impact on the lives of others and seeing them grow and become more aware of their authentic self motivates me to continue doing what I do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner has been watching my journey over the last 20 years and how I have personally transformed as a business owner. My confidence has grown, I am not afraid to take risks, and I trust life to take care of me, even in the slow times. I never lose my faith in myself or the service I am providing to others.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I believe one of the hardest things about being a business owner is the “unknowns.” Sometimes it is unknown where the next client is coming from or where the next check is coming from. Learning to build relationships that last and being true to yourself keeps the “flow” going in your business so you no longer are afraid of the unknowns.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Network and build long-lasting relationships and nurture those connections.
  2. Stay true to yourself and work within your natural strengths. Hire others to do the rest.
  3. Do not be afraid of failure. “Failure” is a stepping stone to success and learning what to do and what not to do.
