What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help the single woman overcome her struggles with being single, glow in her singleness, and take control of her story. So, she can experience a way of life she loves waking up to and desires to live. I'm a Certified Life Coach & Lifestyle Consultant, Author, and Founder of VEWatts, LLC.

Tell us about yourself

I was born and grew up on the island of Trinidad & Tobago and migrated to the United States in 1996, a milestone moment in my story. Another event date of mine came in June 2015, when one decision became the driving force that changed everything in my world. I remember a phrase I heard as a child, "you win or lose by the way you choose." This is true, I found it to be so. I felt like I needed to do something because of needing to feel excited about waking up every morning—the yearning to be hopeful about my current and future life. And I was longing to have happiness, joy, fulfillment, and a sense of direction.

I was tired of feeling burned out, unfulfilled, frustrated, drifting through time, and having no control of how I was experiencing each day. Because of my decision, I found the courage to declare, "enough, no more." Those two words, my defiant spirit, prayers, and a willingness to grow, helped me shift the trajectory of my life.

Today, joy and fulfillment are constant in my daily living, something I once thought was impossible. Now I have control and a choice in how I live out my story. However, the most significant transformation is recognizing who I am and what I need as an individual. Where I'm heading, how I'm getting there, and the "why" that drives my every decision and action.

My coaching business was born from my struggles and my experience of overcoming them. I was my first coaching client. And my desire to see other single ladies struggling like I was, thriving in their individual lives. What keeps me motivated is learning about the difference I've made in other women's hearts, whether through coaching with me or hearing my story. That lights me up, motivates me, and helps me stay focused on helping my sisters transform their stories from the inside out.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

As a business owner, my biggest accomplishment is when I make even the slightest difference in my client's way of life. I've done one-on-one coaching, group coaching, live workshops, and videos. And the best feeling is when my clients and followers share with me how my coaching, tips, or information helped change their lives and help them act.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I would have to say that starting in a new industry and a business in the online space could be challenging. Building confidence and credibility via the Internet isn't a straightforward thing to accomplish. Building up your know—like and trust factor takes time, commitment, and consistency. To stay booked with clients. That's been difficult for me.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Think about having a life coach along with a business coach. I wish I had gotten life coaching before hiring a business coach. I had to work on my self-esteem, confidence, self-identity, and mindset before implementing the things I needed to do for my business to succeed. Personal coaching could allow you to discover and work through some of your significant roadblocks before investing thousands of dollars into many business coaches.
  2. Take ownership and accountability for yourself and your actions, and be a lifelong learner to keep growing.
  3. Know when it's time to ask for support or to hire help. Don't start, run, or grow your business alone.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I believe that as single women that our experiences connect us. Where we stand in our daily lives may be different, but what we experience as unmarried females is similar. Some of us have the outward image of success, but it doesn't feel that way. Many single women spend valuable time and energy feeling lonely. Or exhausted, anxious, being people-pleasers, overwhelmed, bored, frustrated, burned out, longing for companionship, stretched thin, or lost.

The evidence is that you don't have to live there. You have the power to change the reality of how you're living and the quality of your single life experience. You get to choose to do something about it every day.
