What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a physical therapist for humans and horses, holding a Certification in Equine Rehab. I have a private outpatient physical therapy clinic to see two-legged patients and an equine facility where I rehab four-legged patients.
Tell us about yourself
I have been a lifelong horse person and have always wanted to have a career with horses. After getting my training in physical therapy, I found a niche where I could work with injured riders and horses so that they could be both healthy and as pain-free as possible, optimizing their performance in and out of the arena.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment after becoming a certified equine rehab therapist was opening our indoor riding and boarding facility, where we can keep inpatient horses that are in need of rehab and a controlled environment to be re-conditioned to get back into work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things to do as a business owner is managing human resources. It is nice to have lots of help to get things done, but when we are not busy, we have to tell those people to go home.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Be ready to work.
- Don't get caught in "analysis paralysis."
- Set little obtainable goals to take you to your bigger vision in mind.
