Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sara Camilo, founder of Camilo Careers, located in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help frustrated professionals find a new ideal job. I'm a certified resume writer and career coach, helping individuals uncover their strengths and bring their best package to an interview process. My primary services include resume writing, interview prep, salary negotiation, LinkedIn profile writing, and more. My signature program is called, Total Interview Program (TIP), and it's a digital self-paced course including an ongoing weekly Zoom call with myself and all members.

Tell us about yourself

Prior to launching Camilo Careers in 2019, I gained 15 years of experience in the recruiting industry. That experience includes executive recruiting at recruiting firms and talent acquisition management experience at Fortune 100 organizations. I was unhappy in my career for multiple years and decided to repurpose my experience in a new way - helping unhappy job seekers find that next ideal job. I've never been happier!

The timing of starting Camilo Careers was ideal. It was right before COVID-19 changed our lives and millions of people lost their jobs unexpectedly. I was honored to work with so many professionals who were uncertain and overwhelmed in the job searching process and guide them through the process to secure new jobs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Creating and launching the TIP because it encompasses my career coaching knowledge in 1 place in an effort to help more people faster.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Patience. I often remind myself that success doesn't happen overnight. It takes time to develop processes and implement strategies the right way. So, although I have many goals and wish I was farther along with achieving them, I know that I will at the right time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire people to help you, don't spread yourself thin.
  2. Take breaks, don't get burnt out.
  3. Celebrate each milestone! (I don't need a reminder for that one, but many others do!)

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Many amazing career coaches are available out there for you, yet, they won't all be perfect for you. So, do your research and find the best coach for you, your industry, and your career goals.
