What's your business, and who are your customers?

We offer online math courses, both pre-recorded and lived options, ranging from 5th Grade Math through Trigonometry. Our customers have been primarily homeschooled families up to this point.

Tell us about yourself

I taught in a classroom for four years and started making homework videos and lesson videos for my students to assist them in their learning. They were very appreciative, so I thought maybe I could package together the course content into an online course so other students in other locations could utilize it. This is how the company began. What keeps me motivated is that I want to make sure my program is meeting all the math needs of my parents and students across the country.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Finally, be to a point where I can fully support myself with the income generated by my business. Also, receiving WASC accreditation this year was a huge milestone.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying motivated to get work done without anyone telling you what to do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make sure you know that there is a need for whatever it is you want to do.
  2. Be willing to put in a lot of work upfront.
  3. Realize that it may take a couple of years before your company is profitable, so be in it for the long haul.
