What's your business, and who are your customers?

My art therapy business provides services for people of all ages and backgrounds, including neurodiverse, LGBTQIA2S+, and the Ethical Non-Monogamy community. My goal is to empower, support, and honor people on their journey of self-discovery as they navigate complex emotions and trauma. It is a privilege to witness people as they learn their own symbolic language and integrate their self-reflections to make healthy changes in their lives.

Tell us about yourself

I started my private practice in 2015 as it was challenging to find a job posting in my area that would grant me the freedom to pursue my interests and support the people who needed it the most. I love creatively exploring different topics with my clients, for example, women's anger and empowerment and the art of non-monogamy.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

It's hard to define accomplishments as a private practice business owner. I have such deep gratitude for my clients. Facilitating art shows for my clients and writing about their work for an upcoming book on Art Therapy has been an incredible honor.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not every client is a perfect fit. However, it is wonderful to be part of a community of helping professionals that I can refer clients to when they need a different approach.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find your support network. There are lots of people who want to support your venture; you just need to find them.
  2. Learn how to leverage different platforms to your advantage.
  3. Consult with mentors, and make time for yourself.
