Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Debi Silber, Founder, and CEO of The PBT (Post Betrayal Transformation) Institute, located in Plainview, NY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the Founder and CEO of The PBT (Post Betrayal Transformation) Institute. The only full-service, online space to heal physically, mentally, and emotionally from the betrayal of a family member, partner, friend, coworker, self, etc.

Tell us about yourself

After two painful betrayals (my family and then my husband), I was desperate to heal. At 50, with four kids, six dogs, and a thriving business, I enrolled in a Ph.D. program in transpersonal psychology (the psychology of transformation and human potential). While there, I studied betrayal- what holds us back, what helps us heal, and what happens to us (physically, mentally, and emotionally) when the people closest to us lie, cheat, and deceive. That study led to 3 groundbreaking discoveries which changed everything we know about betrayal and what it takes to heal. I was so inspired by the discoveries I put them into a program-it blew up. Then everyone wanted to work with me - I created our certification program to leverage myself. Then I realized that I did the study so I know what works and what doesn't to help someone heal and thought, "What would happen if I put everything that works under one roof?" That's The PBT Institute.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Taking my pain and doing someone powerful, helpful, and healing with it. We help thousands of others through our programs, coaches, books, products, the 2 TEDx talks, services, and amazing charity program.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Having the inspiration to do something, spending endless time/energy/expense and the results haven't caught up yet... and continuing to put in your best effort because the mission pulls you every day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Keep it simple, don't give up, and bring your uniqueness into whatever you do - that's how you stand out and keep going.
