Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jacquelyn Ochoa, Founder of Jacquelyn Ochoa Wellness, based in Austin, TX, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a women's hormonal health practitioner and yoga instructor.

Tell us about yourself

I spent my teens, 20's, and into my 30s with the belief that all my symptoms of PMS were a normal part of being a woman. It wasn't until I had my two girls, dealt with postpartum depression, and got off of birth control for good that I realized what is common is not normal. PMS was my body's way of telling me something I was doing was out of alignment with my body's actual needs. It took longer to figure out what was right for me because I had never actually listened to my body. Yoga was the bridge to understanding my body better. It required me to get still and be present. The more I practiced, the louder my inner voice became, and the more I saw the areas of my life that needed to be addressed. I researched, studied, and learned that simple things like waking up with the sun, walking in nature, and prioritizing protein could profoundly impact my hormonal health. What motivates me each day to do this work is the desire to share this knowledge with every woman and empower them with tools to live a vibrant life. When more women stand in their power, connect with their cycle, and care for themselves, we all benefit. Oh, and I do this to set an example for my two girls: we are never stuck
we carve our paths at any age.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment, as of now, I have big goals set for 2023, is niching my business. I started this new career path as a yoga teacher, but this last year, I have narrowed my focus to women's hormonal health. For a long time, I was scared to narrow my focus. It took making small changes I felt comfortable with to get where I am today. But it has made an enormous impact. I have seen my business grow by narrowing my focus, and I am more passionate about the transformation I can offer clients.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

The biggest challenge I face daily is balancing my personal and professional life. My mind is always on growing my business, and it seems like a stream of endless tasks. How much time is right about time or work and rest? I love what I do so that I can get lost in creating. But I have noticed that my productivity increases when I take time when I step away fully and recharge.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be open to the journey; the path to building a business is not linear.
  2. Start anywhere; you won't know what works and doesn't work until you try.
  3. You don't need to be the most qualified, just the most determined. We often think more qualifications will get people to want to work with us, but in reality, it is more connection.
