Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Jessica Dumas, Founder of Jessica Dumas Coaching and Training, located in Winnipeg, MB, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women strengthen confidence so they can feel good enough to be seen and sell their services on social media! Many women have difficulty talking about sales, prices, and money in general, and ask them to show up online and talk about their service; it's a crisis! Yet some of us yearn to do it. I help you do it with confidence and strategy.

Tell us about yourself

I am a speaker and speaker coach who has raised three sons as a single parent and as a professional speaker. I have made over $100K a year speaking and have spoken to audiences as large as 7500 people, introducing Michelle Obama to Winnipeg. I was a very shy young person with very low self-esteem well into my early thirties, and I show up every day to show others that I am no one special and that they can overcome the fear of being seen and create a life that they love. I have been showing my face online since 2015, when Facebook launched 'going live.' Now it has become something that I am widely recognized for.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is every day when I realize that I STILL get to do work that I love. I get to show up on social media and sell coaching services while I empower my clients to do the same. I sell coaching, workshops, and emcee work where my goal is to always inspire other women so that they can see it's possible to strengthen their confidence muscles and be seen the way they really want to be seen.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The hardest thing that comes along with being a business owner is what I know as being a solo business owner. You have to surround yourself with others who you can talk to, others who know what the low and slow days are like. The alternative is trying to have a friend or partner console you who does not understand entrepreneurship and give you normal people advice. Business owners and entrepreneurs are not normal people. We are a whole different breed, and we need to surround ourselves with people who can communicate as such. I also learned that if you don't have those 'work besties' around you, you might have to invest in a coaching community to find them, and this is most often one of the best things you can do.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

The first tip to someone wanting to start or grow a business is to remember that marketing never stops and should always be something on your agenda.

The second tip is that you can never talk too much about your business. Find creative ways to talk about the problem you are solving in as many ways as possible. Nike is not sick of seeing their logo out in the world; you should never think you are talking about your business too much.

The third tip is to tell people exactly how to work with you. I had a client selling a beautiful item on her Instagram page, and I went to her site to find the product and gave up after a minute. People's attention spans are short! Tell me where to find it, or I'm leaving!

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I have an application for coaching in the link of my Instagram bio. I'm telling you exactly how to work with me because I am in business, and I want to help others be seen and sell their services. Good things happen when women make money, and good things happen when women are genuinely confident to sell. You started a business because you wanted to change or improve someone's life somehow, now don't forget to tell the world about it! I can help!
