Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in coaching but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Julie Little, Founder of Jewels of Wellbeing, located in Portland, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Life Coach for women who are ready for change. I help women who feel lost or overwhelmed after years of supporting others or being moms and/or businesswomen and are ready to say It's My Turn! My program is called It's My Turn and is for those who Dare go from Depleted to Delighted!

Tell us about yourself

I was an educator for 35 years, then a health coach. But I found that our health and our emotions are all tied up with our thoughts and beliefs. I'm a teacher of mindfulness, meditation, Tai Chi, and longevity. I am a follower of Thich Nhat Hahn, who was a Buddhist monk, author, and teacher for the west. I am an author; my first book is Light on the Pond Scum: A Memoir. This book tells how I went from Depleted to Delighted and became a Life Coach.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I truly enjoy changing women's lives for the better. A huge win for me is when a client says to me, " I feel more like myself than I have in years!" I love working 1:1 with clients, but I also love when I have a small group coaching program where we can all support each other.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I struggle still to get them just the right new client. I explain my program well but get in front of the right people when they are ready for change and inspiration.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Talk to people in person or in small groups when you get a chance. Get seen, get to know people, and ask about how they are doing. Talking to someone who was not my ideal client has often gotten me in front of the right client later on.
  2. Get things prepared and ready, like logos and website, as you go, but do not wait until those things are in place before you get started.
  3. Charge for your services right away, don't wait too long. A few free sessions with results, and you are on your way.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

I can talk about my current summer group starting up in a few weeks. I can talk about my book and how I feel it inspires others to stand up for what they need, even in the face of difficult lives.
