Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Daniel Lozano, Founder of KindWorks.AI, located in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

KindWorks.AI improves employee well-being and connectivity through kindness and technology. We've built an enterprise platform with a friendly AI agent ('Beni') that suggests simple and effective kindness acts and exercises grounded in the scientifically-proven benefits of kindness.

Beni connects through communication tools such as Slack, WhatsApp, and Teams to increase employees' sense of purpose, connectivity to colleagues, competency, motivation, performance, and more. Our current customers are top consulting companies, and we are hoping to expand to other kinds of companies and to be able to spread Kindness all around the world.

Tell us about yourself

During the most challenging moment in my professional life (I was having visa issues and could not relocate in time to continue working with my team), I did an Act of Kindness for a stranger that changed my life. The moment was so impactful and made both of us feel so good that I decided to research more about the effects of  kindness. I found so many scientific research papers about the benefits of kindness that I thought I knew I had to share this acquired knowledge with the world. At the time, I was also President of the Oxford University AI Society, and I witnessed many use cases of AI that were not of full benefit to the world.

I saw the opportunity to utilize the power of technology and AI to extend the human ability to do kindness. The opportunity to maximize the impact of Kindness on humanity is imperative now. We've seen, and our customers have seen, that doing kindness with our platform is a compelling tool humans and business leaders have to improve their well-being and feelings of purpose and connectivity. We are responsible for having as many people as possible feel and see the results of living a more meaningful work experience and life by consistently doing Kindness with our platform.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the culture and team we have built at KindWorks by using our product. We have created a product that we use consistently. The culture of KindWorks.AI is everything I always dreamed of a workplace to be. We've had the honor to create impactful value for the most critical organizations in the world that manage the highest standards.

I am grateful and proud of the team we have and what our team and our product can deliver while having a great work environment that feels more like going to the park than to work.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Prioritization. There are so many opportunities out there and so many use cases for our enterprise platform that is prioritizing the most impactful areas of focus is complicated but crucial for the success of our company.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Be Kind to yourself and others because Kindness is a powerful tool to make things happen, don't be afraid to have high goals, and make sure you surround yourself with people who share your core values and can execute.
