Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nicole Raymondi, founder of Self by Deisgn LLC., located in San Diego, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Self by Design is a new-age mindset method rooted in neuroscience, psychology, and spirituality that guides conscious leaders to master the power of their subconscious minds for true transformation. I channel this philosophy through my Corporate Mindfulness Training and Private Coaching. Overall, I'm on a mission to raise the level of self-understanding & awareness and empower people to master the power of their subconscious minds for higher levels of consciousness, creativity, and connection. Who's with me? :)

Tell us about yourself

It's been a journey for sure! I spent many years of my life suffering from a number of physical, mental, and emotional health challenges that greatly affected my personal relationships and career growth. Eventually, I discovered it was my own sense of personal identity and beliefs, held in the subconscious mind, that was holding me back from experiencing a truly thriving life. Once I made that shift from an external focus to an internal one, I dove deep into the study of all areas of the mind, including cognitive neuroscience, cognitive behavioral therapy, Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), clinical hypnosis, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and emotional freedom technique (EFT). All of that training and experience culminated into the work I do now to show people how to tap into the power of their subconscious minds, align with their true purpose, and redesign their limitations to achieve emotional freedom, mental clarity, and thriving careers, relationships, and health in all areas of life.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the journey this experience has taken me on. My recognition that it's not about the accomplishments and the milestones but the lessons, experiences, and expansion that occurs along the way to those milestones has been my greatest teacher. I have grown and evolved in so many ways that I never knew possible along this path. I am so eternally grateful for it. I truly believe entrepreneurship is one of the highest paths to self-actualization and, ultimately, self-transcendence.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The continual process of personal growth and evolution. Entrepreneurship is a mirror that requires you to consistently look at your shortcomings and limitations and move past them with grace, humility, and compassion. It really shows just how human each one of us is and how much we all carry good and bad, light and dark, positive and negative. For many, that's a path too uncomfortable to walk because of the close intimacy to yourself and all parts of you. But, for those brave enough, it's truly rewarding and expansive!

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Just begin. Don't spend too much time agonizing over your brand, model, or audience. Just start and let it unfold. The reward is in the experience and what you discover about yourself along the way. The only way to do that is to begin.
  2. Decide on your why first and make it as juicy and emotionally moving as possible. It needs to be strong why that lights you up and makes you feel more connected than ever. This will be your continual driver when things get hard and when the self-doubts surface, as they will. It's your center point to return to and the place where all else flows.
  3. Don't take business too seriously! Laugh, play, and have fun with it. My Dad used to tell me before every big meeting, event, and opportunity
"Go in with a calm confidence and just have fun with it!" Those words have held me so many times and served as a continual reminder that life (and business!) is meant to be experienced and enjoyed!!
