Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Caroline Mauro, Founder of Rewolf Agency, located in Topanga, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Rewolf Agency is a creative marketing agency. We support purpose-driven businesses with branding, websites, content creation (including short-form videos for social), social strategy + social media management, partnerships, sponsorships, influencer campaigns, and beyond.

We empower brands that put the planet and people first, with a collective goal to leave the world better than we found it. Our clients are committed to social enterprise, holistic health and wellness, conscious consumerism, sustainability, community action, social impact, and systemic change and beyond.

Tell us about yourself

I'm the founder, chief creative, and lead strategist of the creative marketing agency Rewolf.

My mission in life is to use my creativity as a catalyst for change and a source of good. Many of our clients are female-owned and minority-owned, and helping to amplify their business creations and voices, often feels like my life's work and motivates me daily. These conscious businesses and their founder journeys are a huge inspiration to me.

Prior to Rewolf, I spent a decade working as a brand specialist, fashion stylist, producer, and art director for hundreds of established brands like Alex + Ani, Anthropologie, Barneys New York, Converse, Free People, Reebok, Ruelala, TJX, and beyond.

After experiencing pretty severe burnout and seeking to use my creativity in a more meaningful way, I left the fashion industry after 12 years. I created a cannabis wellness product brand, INDA Creations, and was an early adopter in the CBD space. I built the business from concept to launch, managed e-commerce platforms & wholesale accounts, built pop-up activations, increased brand presence through social media, and spearheaded press efforts. While running INDA, I started consulting in social media and creative services for various like-minded businesses in the wellness space. As the demand grew, so did my consultancy, and eventually, the agency was born to support the need more wholeheartedly.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is being able to combine all of the things I'm passionate about under one roof and do what I love every day. I am genuinely interested in the success of each business I support due to the alignment of the projects I take and knowing that these businesses will support a healthier planet and future. Being able to use my creativity every day in a positive way to improve the planet and move the needle forward on causes and initiatives that are important to me is truly a dream come true.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Probably that the work is never really done. Often, you do not clock out at 5 pm, there are always ways to improve, grow and better your business, and the task list is never-ending. On the flip side of that, if you love what you do, it will never feel like work. I feel grateful to embody this sentiment.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Hire out! (Don't try to do everything yourself after the start-up phase).
  2. Choose the right niche.
  3. Start a business that matches your personality and interests.
