Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Sheri Green, Co-Founder of Soul Food Coaching LLC., located in Calabasas, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a certified life and relationship coach. I work one-on-one and with couples. I help my clients break chronic patterns of thought and actions that are keeping them stuck and holding them back from true happiness, connection, fulfillment, and purpose. My couples are able to create safe and successful pathways to conflict resolution, regaining trust, rediscovering passion and intimacy, as well as family planning (when to have children and how to raise them). My 1:1 clients are able to safely explore their true desires and then create digestible action plans to create sustainable change finally. This happens in a completely nonjudgemental environment where the intention is pure empowerment and freedom!

Tell us about yourself

I have been coaching for 14 years after a 20-year career in fashion as a fit model and co-owner of a design business in NYC. Coaching is my true calling and passion, as I'm able to help people in an empowering way. I have been in love with my husband for over three decades; he is also a coach. We have three adult children and two fur-babies. Our health practices include a vegan diet, raw juicing, yoga, hiking, and meditation. We are sex-positive and LGBTQ+ advocates.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

At 54 years old and an entrepreneur, having several companies for over 25 years, I've had several big accomplishments...

  1. Being in business with my husband for 25+ years and our relationship thriving instead of it tearing us apart.
  2. Being a successful fit model in NYC for over 22 years through all the changes in my body as a woman. Staying healthy and strong while staying at the top of my game in the market.
  3. Having a successful fashion design business in NYC for 8+ years while our company survived the 9/11 attacks (2 of our stores were in the trade centers), three business partners (one who stole our entire revenue for the year), a fashion show stylist who stole original gowns from the collection and a million other hurdles. But we were able to grow the business, have fashion shows, travel, involve our kids, and live a dream.
  4. Totally switch course and become a certified professional coach and healthy lifestyle influencer where we're able to take our training and life experience and help people live life fearlessly and pursue their dreams.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Not having a consistent income, having it all ride on your shoulders, and feelings of isolation.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Don't wait for everything to be "perfect" - it won't ever be.
  2. Don't look for others to "discover" you, validate you, acknowledge your hard work, or tell you you're ready - you've got to do that for yourself.
  3. Every day, take big, messy steps to move the needle and move closer to each new goal. And most importantly, in ensure success, have someone in your life hold you accountable and push you to move forward. It could be a coach, friend, partner, or mentor - anyone who will help you from getting "stuck."
