Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Lindsey Lekhraj, Founder of The Designer Genes Co., located in Nashville, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I'm an Epigenetics Coach! I help people customize their wellness strategy to be highly individualized to their unique chemistry and DNA for the best results possible.

Tell us about yourself

I stumbled into the wellness industry via my own health journey, which was a long and windy road that I was told would likely be never-ending. Over the years, and through a ton of high-level education and relentless faith, I've been able to overcome my struggles and find healing in a truly holistic way. My experience is not unique, and I hear similar versions from clients practically every day. It's incredibly rewarding to re-empower people in their health and teach them how to take wellness into their own hands by harnessing the deep insights in their gene code. This is truly the motivation— showing people what's possible, especially when they've been on the verge of giving up.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment has happened this year, as I've expanded into coaching other practitioners with this incredible technology to even further share the modality with the masses! It's been a very full-circle experience to have the honor of guiding others with similar passions into the foolproof path of genetic customization. We need more people in the world putting this technology into as many lives as possible!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

To me, one of the biggest challenges is staying focused when it feels like no one is listening. People always are, even if they don't engage. It's a constant reminder that the world needs to hear what you have to say, even when it feels like crickets! You just never know when the day will come that the client in the audience will be ready to take the leap.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Stay flexible! Running a successful business rarely feels linear these days. It's important to stay focused on the big picture and not get caught up in the details.
  2. Put yourself in their shoes. Who are you helping? What do they need from you? How can you make them feel seen, heard, and supported?
  3. Have fun with it! Entrepreneur pressure is real, but so is freedom. I take my business very seriously, but I also infuse as much fun as possible.
