Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kelley Logan, founder of The Natural Lab, located in Charlotte, NC, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business, The Natural Lab, is a wellness facility that connects the dots in holistic healthcare. Not only do we offer a variety of fitness classes (HITT, Tabata, Extreme Hip Hop Step, Glute Maxout, and Zumba), but we also provide clinical nutrition plans, consultations, and consultations along with infrared sauna therapy.

Our facility also hosts wellness-based networking events and group counseling sessions. Every part of the Natural Lab is tied to healing from within to manifest the person you desire to be - naturally. Our community is extremely loving and supportive, and once you're here, you are stuck for the long haul.

Tell us about yourself

It's interesting because no one really knows this, but I started the Natural Lab because every aspect of it had to do with my own personal healing. I have been through various situations in life that have left me feeling and looking sad, depressed, disconnected, sick, stressed, and overweight. I craved connection so bad in a city where I knew no one.

As I went on my own healing journey, I realized me becoming my best self wasn't just about losing weight; although that was a large part of it, I needed a listening ear, a friend, and a community. I need guidance and love. So in my reflection on needing those things, I realized we all do, and I wanted to create a community where everybody was somebody, and they could get the love and support, along with the fitness and nutrition just like I had.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment would be being on the front row of my life as I watch my thoughts and dreams manifest, along with people loving what I've created too! It makes me feel like I am doing exactly what I've been called to do, and I wouldn't change that for the world.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I think one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner, especially when you absolutely love what you do, is being able to turn off your business brain when need be. Sometimes I find it hard to go on vacation or even settle down at home because I am always thinking about tomorrow or my next move.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be gentle with yourself. Nothing worth having will come overnight. It takes time to build, just like the foundation of the house. Allow it to grow as you grow.
  2. You are not competing with anyone. Run your own race. The more you feel like you're competing, you give up your power because now you're in a lack mentality. Stay focused on your goals and gifts.
  3. You don't have to have it all figured out right away. Take it day by day. As I grew, my gym grew. I started with a few things, and as time went on, I was able to buy and invest in more. So just get started and stop wasting time.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

The biggest piece of advice I can give to anyone starting a business is to be yourself. The more you try to fit in any box, the more you diminish why people gravitate towards you. Your business, brand, and being are desired in the world simply because you are you. Allow that to shine. Because the more you give the world the true, loving, authentic you, the more your business grows, and the more you change the world.
